On February 3, 2016, Managing Intellectual Property out of Europe released its 2016 listing of IP STARS worldwide, and GLENN BACAL was listed among the leading Intellectual Property Practitioners worldwide. This list is reserved for those professionals who are "highly regarded by their peers for the work they do both in and outside their organizations." Bacal & Garrison Law Group was listed with 7 other Arizona law firms (all larger than our firm and most hundreds of times larger) as being recommended by the publication for intellectual property work. In 2017 and 2018 we continued to have our prestigious listing.
SEAN GARRISON has co-authored an article published by a leading business magazine about a recent Supreme Court case that has important implications for brand owners. This case will have a significant effect on whether or not to file oppositions and cancellations and is must reading. The article, published in 2016 by the WORLD TRADEMARK REVIEW, is entitled THE PRECLUSIVE EFFECT OF TRADEMARK TRIAL AND APPEAL BOARD DECISIONS and is available through a link here.
SEAN GARRISON is one of three co-authors of the United States Chapter in the WTR Yearbook 2016/2017 “A Global Guide For Practitioners” also published by the WORLD TRADEMARK REVIEW. This is the ninth edition of this publication, one that is established as an essential guide to trademark law across the globe. The book provides an easy to use digest of the structure of trademark regulation. with in-depth analysis of the trademark law in 31 jurisdictions, including the U.S. chapter co-authored by Sean Garrison.
TRIAL REPORT
DAVID ANDERSEN previously a partner at the firm was the lead trial lawyer in a two day trial in California in 2015 resulting in judgment for our client, Midway International, on all counts.
DAVID ANDERSEN represented the plaintiff in the case of Midway International Inc. versus Yong Ken Kim, which was tried in the Superior Court of the State of California, County of Los Angeles, Central Civil West from Thursday December 17 to Friday December 18, 2015. Judgment was entered in favor of Midway International on all of its claims by the Court on January 11, 2016. Judgment was also entered in favor of Midway on all the counterclaims that had been asserted by the defendant. David Andersen was assisted by Howard M. Loeb Esq. of Howard M. Loeb P.C. as local counsel. Mr. Loeb was formerly a litigation partner with Kelley Drye & Warren before opening his own shop. Midway International is one of the leading hair product distributors in the world.

On January 1, 2016, Sean D. Garrison, formerly a partner at Lewis Roca Rothgerber joined Bacal Law Group, which thereafter began doing business as Bacal Andersen & Garrison Law Group. Mr. Garrison has been listed in Best Lawyers in America for nearly a decade, with recognition in that publication of his strong reputation in Intellectual Property, Copyright, Trademark Law and Technology, among other areas. He is a Past Chair of the State Bar of Arizona's E-Commerce, Internet and Technology Law Section.

On July 25th, 2016, we became Bacal and Garrison, after David Andersen was named one of the counsel for Brigham Young University. David was a proud alumnus of BYU where two of his grandparents taught and where many of his siblings also attended college. While we miss David, we rejoice in the many great things he is doing at BYU!
